Your adventure begins with your journey to Hotel on the Cay. You cannot drive to the hotel. There is no road or parking lot. You and your luggage are picked up by one of two 26’ ferries a short walk from where your airport taxi lets you off. Every ten minutes a friendly boat captain will welcome you aboard a two-minute cruise across the turquoise waters of the reef-protected harbor to the hotel dock.
From there you will follow a rustic, natural pathway leading to the hotel entrance amidst varieties of palm, sea grape and flowering bushes. Listen for the rustle of the endangered St. Croix Ground Lizard scurrying away in the leaf litter. Feel your heart rate drop as you realize you are on your own 5-acre tropical island.
Walking up the path you may see Mr. Peters raking the beach wrack. Check into your room, drop your luggage, change into your bathing suit and head to the pristine beach just a few hundred yards away. Once there you can swim, rent water sports equipment or simply lounge on our comfortable beach chairs and doze in the sun. It’s up to you. St. Croix Water Sports is located on the island for convenient access to rentals.
Without leaving the cay you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and local rum drinks Monday through Sunday 8 AM to 4 PM at Harbor Master Beach Club (340-719-5438) located on the beach. Every Tuesday night enjoy a special Beach Bar-B-Que and Floor
Show starting at 7 PM with Steel Pan Music by Zodiac, Mocko Jumbi, limbo and broken bottle dancing and fire eating demonstrations. Feast on Hurchell’s delicious and authentic Crucian cuisine or jump on the ferry and explore over twenty other restaurants located in and around downtown Christiansted. The front desk will serve as your personal concierge making recommendations and reservations to suit every taste and budget. Or pick up your own groceries and use one of the gas grills at the Tree House Terrace. It’s up to you.
Sign up for group trips to Divi Casino, grocery shopping or island tours with other guests. If you want to venture out on your own, consult the lobby card rack for information on touring local historical, cultural and recreational sites in open-air vans, boats, cars, jeeps, bikes and even horses. Or simply take the ferry back to the boardwalk and explore the local shops and bistros in your flip-flops. It’s all up to you.
But we’d enjoy helping you choose.
